​7 SECRETS OF THE EUCHARIST, by Vinny Flynn (continued): The Emmaus Problem: Our lack of understanding is nothing new. Even Christ’s closest friends didn’t understand. … Come and See: I’m convinced that, like the disciples, most of us suffer, to some extent, from the Emmaus problem. Even though all the necessary details have been given to us in the teaching of the Church, we just haven’t been able to put it all together. We don’t fully recognize who this is whom we receive in the Eucharist, why He has given us this unique sacrament, or what kind of response he expects from us. At each Mass, the priest says, “Behold the Lamb of God,” an echo of what John the Baptist said to two of his disciples as Jesus walked by. When the disciples then began to follow Jesus, they asked Him, “Where do you live?” and He replied, “Come and see” (Jn 1:39). That’s the invitation I’d like to pass along through this book, a simple invitation to take a closer look at the Eucharist, to come and see where the Master lives beyond the veil. (pp. 3-5) SECRET 1 The Eucharist is alive When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me. They leave me to myself and busy themselves with other things. … They treat me as a dead object. St. Faustina, Diary, 1385 The Eucharist is alive. …The host that we receive is not a thing! It’s not a wafer! It’s not bread! It’s a person – and He’s alive! I’m afraid that, in many of our churches, a stranger in our midst, witnessing a typical Sunday liturgy, would not realize this, but would simply see a bunch of people get up from their seats, wait in line, receive a piece of bread, and then go back to their seats. 7SECRETOS DE LA EUCARISTIA, de Vinny Flynn (continuación): El Problema de Emaús: Nuestra falta de entendimiento no es nada nuevo. Incluso los amigos más cercanos de Jesús n entendían. … Venid y lo Veréis: Estoy convencido de que, como los apóstoles, la mayoría de nosotros sufrimos en alguna medida del problema de Emaús. Aun cuando se nos han dado todos los detalles necesarios en las enseñanzas de la Iglesia, aún no hemos sido capaces de entender. No reconocemos del todo a quien recibimos en la Eucaristía, porqué se nos ha dado este sacramento tan extraordinario, o que tipo de respuesta Él espera de nosotros. En cada Misa el sacerdote dice: “Éste es el Cordero de Dios,” un eco de lo que Juan el Bautista le dijo a dos de sus discípulos cuando Jesús pasaba por done él estaba. Cuando los discípulos comenzaron a seguir a Jesús, ellos le preguntaron: “¿Dónde vives?” Y Él les contesto: “Venid y lo veréis” (Jn 1:39 REV). Ésa es la invitación que me gustaría extender a ustedes a través de este libro, una invitación sencilla para dar una mirada más de cerca a la Eucaristía, para venir y ver donde vive el Maestro más allá del velo. (pp. 3-5) SECRETO 1 La Eucaristía y salive Cuando llego a un corazón humano en la Santa Comunión, tengo las manos llenas de toda clase de gracias y deseo dárselas al alma, pero las almas ni siquiera Me prestan atención. Faustina, 1385 La Eucaristía está viva. … ¡La Hostia que recibimos no es una cosa! ¡No es una galleta! ¡No es pan! ¡Es una persona – y Él está vivo! Temo que en muchas de nuestras iglesias hay algún extraño en medio de nosotros, presenciando una liturgia típica de domingo, y no se dé cuenta de eso, sino simplemente vea a un grupo de personas que se levantan de sus asientos, esperan en fila, reciben un pedazo de pan, y después regresan a sus asientos.
