(continued) Christ is present in the Eucharist with His body and blood together with his soul and divinity. What does that mean? --- A deeper look at another mystery, the mystery of the Incarnation, provided the answer. Like many Catholics, I was familiar with the term Incarnation, but all I knew about it was that it referred to the moment in time when the second person of the Trinity “became incarnate,” meaning, “took on human flesh” – the Son of God became man. The Church teaches that at the words of Mary’s Fiat: “Let it be done to me according to your word,” a human nature, with a body and a soul, was created from her through the power of the Holy Spirit and was fused forever to the divine nature of the second person of the Trinity. As the Catechism explains: [This] does not mean that Jesus Christ is part God and part man, nor does it imply that he is the result of a confused mixture of the divine and the human. He became truly man while remaining truly God. (CCC. #464) Jesus Christ is one divine person with two distinct natures – one totally human, one totally divine. These two natures are so inseparable that the divine person of Christ “remained united to his soul and body, even when these were separated from each other by death” (CCC #650); and, when the Father raised Christ up, He “perfectly introduced His son’s humanity, including His body, into the Trinity” (CCC #648). Jesus … You come to me in Holy Communion, You who together with the Father and the Holy Spirit have deigned to dwell in the little heaven of my heart. … St. Faustina, Diary, 486 When He becomes present for us in the Eucharist, Christ is not alone. I don’t know what you learned, but I never really learned this. Through years of CCD classes, Catholic high school, Catholic college, and homilies at daily Mass, no one ever even suggested to me that Christ does not become present alone. I was so proud of myself. I thought I understood all there was to know about the Eucharist. I not only understood Transubstantiation; I could even spell it. I had learned that this strange word literally means a crossing of one substance to another, and that, as applied to the Eucharist, it refers to the most unique and complete crossing imaginable – that from the moment of consecration, the entire substance of the bread and wine ceases to exist, and that what still appears to our senses as bread and wine is now the body and blood of Christ: “By the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of His blood.” Council of Trent, CCC, #1376 I could quote the teaching, but I didn’t really understand it, didn’t realize how much more there was to it, and had no clue that Christ is not alone. Only when I started studying the Council of Trent’s definition of the Eucharist did the veil start to lift. The Council teaches that the Eucharist contains “the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Together with the soul and divinity! A lo largo de los años de clases de Religión, Escuela Secundaria Católica, Universidad Católica, y homilías en la Misa diaria, nunca nadie me sugirió que Cristo no se presenta solo. ​More and more people, feeling a need to express reverence for Jesus in a concrete way as they go to receive, while also trying to avoid calling attention to themselves or disrupt the order of Communion, make a slight bow just before they receive. … It fulfills the specific instructions given by the Church: When the faithful communicate kneeling, no other sign of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament is required, since kneeling is itself a sign of adoration. When they receive Communion standing, it is strongly recommended that, coming up in procession, they should make a sign of reverence before receiving the Sacrament. (Inaestimabile Donum, 11) As Pope John Paul II points out, “we need to cultivate a lively awareness of Christ’s real presence,” and we should take care “to show that awareness through tone of voice, gestures, posture and bearing.” Pope Benedict XVI also discusses this issue of how to receive, emphasizing that, instead of arguing about whether it is better to receive kneeling or standing, in the hand or on the tongue, we need to focus on the spirit of reverence with which the Early Fathers of the Church received Communion. First urging priests to “exercise tolerance and to recognize the decision of each person,” he goes on to ask everyone “to exercise the same tolerance and not to cast aspersions on anyone who may have opted for this or that way of doing it” What is important is reverence: It is quite wrong to argue about this of that form of behavior. ​7 SECRETOS DE LA EUCARISTIA, de Vinny Flynn (Secreto 1 – La Eucaristía está Viva, continuación): Más y más gente, sintiendo la necesidad de expresar, de una manera más concreta, dicha reverencia por Jesús cuando can a recibirlo y al mismo tiempo tratando de evitar llamar la atención sobre sí mismo o interrumpir el orden de la Comunión, hace una pequeña genuflexión justo antes de recibir la comunión. …Y esto cumple con las instrucciones específicas dadas por la Iglesia: Cuando los feligreses comulgan d rodillas, no se requiere ninguna otra señal de reverencia hacia el Santísimo Sacramento, ya que el arrodillarse es en sí mismo una señal de adoración. Cuando reciben la Comunión de pie, se recomienda encarecidamente que, al acercarse en procesión, deben hacer una señal de reverencia antes de recibir el Sacramento. ​In 1916, as a year of preparation for Our Lady's at Fatima, the Angel appearances at Fatima, of Peace appeared three times to Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco. The most dramatic scene is the third visit, when the e apel comes with the Eu- charist. Suspending the lost and the chalice in the air, he throws himself prostrate on the ground and has the children repeat the following prayer three times:

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. rofoundly. I offer you the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He Himself is offended. And through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners.

An angel prostrates himself on the ground! We stand in line with our minds filled with distractions....But an angel, a pure spirit, who lives constantly in the intimate presence of God, prostrates himself before the Eucharist in adoration! That's a pretty strong message. It was so strong that young Francisco spent the rest of his short life trying to console God in the Eucharist. Every moment he could, he spent in front of the Blessed Sacra- ment, trying to console God for the indifferent way that people respond to the Eucharist.

So there's our invitation; there's the contrast for us. We can treat God as a dead object, or we can prostrate our whole beings in front of Him, in adoration, in gratitude, in love, in reparation. I'm not suggesting that we all run up and throw ourselves on our faces in front of the Eucharist the next time we receive, But interiorly we can. Whether we stand or kneel to receive, we can always in our hearts, minds and souls, be prostrate in adoration of the living God in the Eucharist.

Entones, alli está nuestra invitación, alli está el contraste para nosotros, Podemos tratar a Dios como un objeto шесто, о podemos postrar todo muestro ser en Su presencia, en adoración, en gratitud, en amor, en reparación. No estoy sugiriendo que todos vayamos y nos tiremos rostro en tierra frente a la Eucaristia la próxima vez que vayamos a recibirla. Pero interiormente podemos. ​7 SECRETS OF THE EUCHARIST, by Vinny Flynn (continued): The Emmaus Problem: Our lack of understanding is nothing new. Even Christ’s closest friends didn’t understand. … Come and See: I’m convinced that, like the disciples, most of us suffer, to some extent, from the Emmaus problem. Even though all the necessary details have been given to us in the teaching of the Church, we just haven’t been able to put it all together. We don’t fully recognize who this is whom we receive in the Eucharist, why He has given us this unique sacrament, or what kind of response he expects from us. At each Mass, the priest says, “Behold the Lamb of God,” an echo of what John the Baptist said to two of his disciples as Jesus walked by. When the disciples then began to follow Jesus, they asked Him, “Where do you live?” and He replied, “Come and see” (Jn 1:39). That’s the invitation I’d like to pass along through this book, a simple invitation to take a closer look at the Eucharist, to come and see where the Master lives beyond the veil. (pp. 3-5) SECRET 1 The Eucharist is alive When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me. They leave me to myself and busy themselves with other things. … They treat me as a dead object. St. Faustina, Diary, 1385 The Eucharist is alive. …The host that we receive is not a thing! It’s not a wafer! It’s not bread! It’s a person – and He’s alive! I’m afraid that, in many of our churches, a stranger in our midst, witnessing a typical Sunday liturgy, would not realize this, but would simply see a bunch of people get up from their seats, wait in line, receive a piece of bread, and then go back to their seats. Incluso los amigos más cercanos de Jesús n entendían. … Venid y lo Veréis: Estoy convencido de que, como los apóstoles, la mayoría de nosotros sufrimos en alguna medida del problema de Emaús. Aun cuando se nos han dado todos los detalles necesarios en las enseñanzas de la Iglesia, aún no hemos sido capaces de entender. No reconocemos del todo a quien recibimos en la Eucaristía, porqué se nos ha dado este sacramento tan extraordinario, o que tipo de respuesta Él espera de nosotros. En cada Misa el sacerdote dice: “Éste es el Cordero de Dios,” un eco de lo que Juan el Bautista le dijo a dos de sus discípulos cuando Jesús pasaba por done él estaba. Cuando los discípulos comenzaron a seguir a Jesús, ellos le preguntaron: “¿Dónde vives?” Y Él les contesto: “Venid y lo veréis” (Jn 1:39 REV). Ésa es la invitación que me gustaría extender a ustedes a través de este libro, una invitación sencilla para dar una mirada más de cerca a la Eucaristía, para venir y ver donde vive el Maestro más allá del velo. A friend of mine recently recommended to me a good book on the Eucharist. It is short, powerful and to the point. I couldn’t put it down. In my next set of Pastor’s Corners, I will be sharing quotations from 7 Secrets of the Eucharist by Vinny Flynn, first published in 2006. Author’s Note “Canonized by Pope John Paul II, April 30, 2,000, Faustina became the first saint of the Jubilee Year that ushered in the third millennium. In his homily, the pope repeatedly referred to her as ‘a gift of God for our time.’ Known as the ‘Apostle of Divine Mercy,’ she is also one of the greatest saints of the Eucharist. Her religious name is Maria Faustina Kowalska of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and almost every page of her Diary contains some reference to the Eucharist. Faustina called the Eucharist the ‘secret of my sanctity.’ May this book help you to discover why and to let the Eucharist lead you to sanctity as well. En mi próxima serie del Rincón del Párroco, compartiré citas de 7 Secretos del la Eucaristía de Viny Flynn, publicado por primera vez en 2006. Si usted desea su propia copia, está disponible en nuestra librería de St. Marello en inglés y español. Nota Del Autor El Papa Juan Pablo II canonizo a Santa Faustina el 30 de abril del año 2000. Ella fue la primera santa del Año del Jubileo que trajo el tercer milenio. En su homilía, el Papa se refería repetidamente a ella como “un regalo de Dios para nuestra época.” Conocida como la “Apóstol de la Divina Misericordia,” ella es también una de las santas más grandes de la Eucaristía. Now there is even more pressure by misguided politicians for students to be part of the “culture of death.” Assembly Bill 624 states that “a public school, including a charter school, that serves pupils in any grades 7 to 12” and “ a public or nonsectarian private institution of higher education” …”shall have printed on either side of the student identification cards” … “a sexual or reproductive health hotline” (code for Planned parenthood abortionists). The vote on AB 624 on Thursday, May 9 in the 80 member State Assembly was 58 Democrats yes, 14 Republicans no, 5 Republicans and 3 Democrats did not vote. Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, a pro-child, pro-family organization, questioned the “health” motive of AB 624. “What about how abortion harms women’s health? Where’s the acknowledgement of post-abortion infections, bleeding, blood clots, cut or torn cervix, puncturing the wall of the uterus, and a whole host of post-abortive negative emotions, including grief, depression, nightmares, sexual dysfunction, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, flashbacks, even suicide? Are Planned Parenthood abortionists going to disclose these risks to pre-teens and teens who call?” And what about the fact that abortion kills a genetically complete, developing human being endowed by its Creator with an unalienable right to life? What happened to “We hold this truth to be self-evident?”

"¿Qué hay de cómo el aborto daña la salud de las mujeres? ¿Dónde está el reconocimiento de infecciones post-aborto, sangrado, coágulos de sangre, cuello uterino cortado o desgarrado, perforación de la pared del útero, y toda una serie de emociones negativas post-abortivas, incluyendo dolor, depresión, pesadillas, disfunción sexual, drogas y abuso de alcohol, trastornos de la alimentación, ansiedad, flashbacks, incluso el suicidio? ¿Los abortistas de Planned Parenthood van a revelar estos riesgos a los preadolescentes y adolescentes que llaman? Están invitados a unirse AL Ejército Eucarístico del Ministerio de Padres Orantes.  Una nueva fase de un Ministerio bilingüe de padres orantes comenzará con un mini retiro este 31 de mayo de 2019 de 6:00p.m. a 9:00p.m. en Salón de los Santos Esposos. No estás solo. Sea empoderado por este grupo de apoyo espiritual para proteger a nuestros hijos en todas las batallas que nos esperan. El miércoles 12 de junio comenzará una Hora Santa Eucarística mensual dirijida por padres y todos los sacerdotes de los Oblatos de San José: las confesiones comienzan a las 6:00p.m., la Misa bilingüe a las 7:00p.m y la Hora Santa Eucarística bilingüe a las 8:00 p.m.

Praise God for Mothers!  Mothers play a critical role in God’s Kingdom of life-giving, life-nurturing-love. The Church traditionally devotes the whole month of May to honor Mary. The month starts off with special homage to St. Joseph, Patron of Workers. St. Joseph models for us the true devotion we ought to have for Mary, the mother of Jesus and the mother of Jesus’ disciples. (See Rev. 12:17). Mary and Joseph model for us the true devotion we ought to have for Jesus.
Mothers’ Day is on May 12. I would like to highlight three opportunities that will enhance our celebration of our mothers this year.
 
ONE:  Go see the movie, Breakthrough! It is an excellent movie that tells the true story of a mother’s tenacious love and faith in the face of the terrible tragedy of the drowning of her 14-year-old son. It also shows the faith of an entire community and can certainly build the faith of those who experience this story.
 
TWO: Plan to participate in the Heart of California Walk for Life! It is on the day before Mothers’ Day, May 11th. Come to the Saturday morning Mass at 8 am. Gather in the parking lot near St. Marello Bookstore at 9 am to begin the walk to Town and Country Park Pavilion. The Rally begins at 10 am. Come and witness publicly to the Truth of the God-given dignity of human life from conception to natural death.
 
THREE: Support the life-saving and mother- supporting work of our parish pro-life ministry, Fe y Esperanza! Corsages and pro-life pins will reward your donations after all Mothers’ Day Masses, May 11-12.

​Alabado sea Dios por las Madres!  Las madres juegan un papel fundamental en el Reino de Dios de dar vida y fomentar amor por la vida. La Iglesia tradicionalmente dedica todo el mes de mayo a honrar a María. El mes comienza con un homenaje especial a San José, patrono de los trabajadores. San José modela para nosotros la verdadera devoción que debemos tener por María, la madre de Jesús y la madre de los discípulos de Jesús. (Mira Rev. 12:17). María y José modelan para nosotros la verdadera devoción que debemos tener por Jesús.
El día de las Madres es el 12 de mayo. Me gustaría destacar tres oportunidades que mejorarán nuestra celebración de nuestras madres este año.
UNO: Ve a ver la película, ¡Avance! Es una excelente película que narra la verdadera historia del amor y la fe tenaces de una madre frente a la terrible tragedia del ahogamiento de su hijo de 14 años. También muestra la fe de toda una comunidad y ciertamente puede edificar la fe de aquellos que experimentan esta historia.
DOS: ¡Participar en el La Caminata de la Vida del Corazón de California! Es el día antes del día de la Madre, 11 de mayo. Ven a la Misa del sábado por la mañana a las 8 am. Reúnanse en el estacionamiento cerca de la librería St. Marello a las 9 de la mañana para comenzar la caminata al Anfiteatro del Parque  Town and Country. El Rally comienza a las 10 de la mañana. Vengan y testimonien públicamente la verdad de la dignidad de la vida humana dada por Dios desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural.
TRES: Apoye la labor que salva vidas y apoye el trabajo de las madres de nuestro Ministerio de vida parroquial, ¡Fe y Esperanza! Los corsages y alfileres pro-vida recompensarán tus donaciones después de todas las Misas del día de la Madre, Mayo 11-12.

JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU. Today is the Octave of Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday. We are solemnly celebrating the great Mystery of our Salvation. “The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15). “Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). We are now living in the End Times, the Age of Divine Mercy. Through Jesus’ Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection, Gift of the Holy Spirit, and founding of the Church, Mercy and Eternal life in God’s Kingdom are being offered to every human being from Adam and Eve to the end of history. Let us receive the Gift, then celebrate and live our new life in Christ! Yet there are still forces at work that are trying to prevent this. What are we up against? The Catechism puts it this way. “God created man in his image and established him in his friendship (396). …Man, tempted by the devil, let his trust in his Creator die in his heart and, abusing his freedom, disobeyed God’s command. …All subsequent sin would be disobedience toward God and lack of trust in his goodness (397). …Scripture portrays the tragic consequences of this first disobedience. …They became afraid of the God of whom they have conceived a distorted image – that of a God jealous of his prerogatives (399). Jesus, who is true God and true man, suffered and died for us. He rose from the dead to offer us he and the Father’s Peace, Pardon, Spirit, Friendship, Mercy and Mission. Jesus has spoken to the world through Saint Faustina, “My child, all your sins have not wounded My Heart as painfully as your lack of trust does – that after so many efforts of My love and mercy, you should still doubt my goodness” (Diary 1486). …”The graces of my mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is – trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive. Souls that trust boundlessly are a great comfort to Me” (Diary 1578). JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU!
 
Divine Mercy Blessings, Fr. John

Jesús, en Ti Confío. Hoy es la Octava de Pascua y el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia. Celebramos solemnemente el gran Misterio de nuestra Salvación. “Esta doctrina es segura y debe ser aceptada sin reservas: Jesucristo vino al mundo para salvar a los pecadores.” (1 Timoteo 1:15) “¡Tanto amó Dios al mundo que le dio a su Hijo Único, para que todo el que crea en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna.” (Juan 3:16) Ahora estamos viviendo en la era final de la Divina Misericordia. A través de la Encarnación de Jesús, la Pasión, la Muerte, la Resurrección, el Don del Espíritu Santo y la fundación de la Iglesia, la misericordia y la vida eterna en el Reino de Dios se ofrecen a todos los seres humanos desde Adán y Eva hasta el fin de la historia. ¡Recibamos el regalo, luego celebremos y vivamos nuestra nueva vida en Cristo! Sin embargo, todavía hay fuerzas que están intentando impedir esto. ¿Contra qué nos enfrentamos? El Catecismo lo expresa de esta manera. “Dios creó al hombre a su imagen y lo estableció en su amistad. (396) ... El hombre, tentado por el diablo, dejó morir en su corazón la confianza hacia su creador y, abusando de su libertad, desobedeció al mandamiento de Dios. En adelante, todo pecado será una desobediencia a Dios y una falta de confianza en su bondad. (397) ... La Escritura muestra las consecuencias dramáticas de esta primera desobediencia. … Tienen miedo de Dios de quien han concebido una falsa imagen, la de un Dios celoso de sus prerrogativas. (399) Jesús, que es verdadero Dios y verdadero hombre, sufrió y murió por nosotros. Se levantó de entre los muertos para ofrecernos a él y a la Paz del Padre, el perdón, el espíritu, la amistad, la misericordia y la misión. Jesús ha hablado al mundo a través de Santa Faustina, “Has de saber, oh alma, que todos tus pecados no han herido tan dolorosamente Mi corazón como tu actual desconfianza - que después de tantos esfuerzos de Mi amor y Mi misericordia no te fías de Mi bondad"  (Diario 1486). ... “Las gracias de Mi misericordia se toman con un solo recipiente y éste es la confianza. Cuanto más confíe un alma, tanto más recibirá. Las almas que confían sin límites son Mi gran consuelo, porque en tales almas vierto todos los tesoros de Mis gracias.” (Diario 1578). ¡Jesus, en Ti Confío!
