Current Use of St. Agnes Mission Church
The community at St. Agnes partakes in sacramental preparation for the Migrant community through the whole of Madera. They offer catechetical courses in perpetration for the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation. The faith community, who gather at St. Agnes Mission Church, do so with great love for their little mission church.
The History of St. Agnes Mission Church
The present church's structure was originally built as a classroom and auditorium facility by the Ripperdan School District when it was formed in 1913 and served in one capacity or another until it was transferred to its present location in 1948, on an acre of land donated by Mr. Tony Moreno to the Diocese of Fresno in honor of his wife Agnes before her death.
With the help of the community, the building was repaired and was dedicated to St. Agnes on June 10, 1951. After the news St. Joachims church in Madera was completed in 1958, the pews, windows, and Stations of the Cross from the old church were installed in St. Agnes. In 1968, the Moreno's donated to the Diocese another three quarters acres of land to the original one acre; on it in 1973 with a grant from the diocesan campaign C.O.P.E, a new building was erected which has been used for the religious education of the children and for community affairs.
