What is Confirmation?

In the sacrament of Baptism we are born into a new life by which we become adopted children of the Father, members of Jesus Christ’s body (the Church) and temples of the Holy Spirit.

In the Sacrament of Confirmation (also known as Chrismation), our Baptism is completed, strengthened and deepened by a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit like that granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be bold missionaries and defenders of the faith through gifts of service to the degree that we are ready and willing to do so.

Confirmation roots us more deeply as children of God, unites us more firmly to Christ, strengthens our bond with the Church, links us more closely with her mission, and helps us to witness to the faith in words and actions.

Both Baptism and Confirmation imprint a permanent spiritual mark of belonging to Christ upon the recipient’s soul.

What is required to receive Confirmation?

Candidates for the sacrament of Confirmation must profess the Catholic Faith, be in a state of grace, have the intentions of receiving the sacrament, and be prepared to be disciples and witnesses to Christ in all parts of their lives.

Baptized teenagers of Saint Joachim’s Church have to attend a special two year program for Confirmation preparation. In order to register the candidates must be at least 14 years old and attend 9 grade in High School. Candidates will not be able to register with our a copy of their baptismal certificate.

Candidates and their parents must sign a “code of conduct” that outlines basic expectations in behavior and clothing.

Unbaptized teenagers should register for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Youth Catechumens must be at least 14 years old and attend 9 grade in High School.

Candidates for Confirmation and Catechumens must choose a sponsor and a patron saint during their first year of preparation for the sacrament.
